A Gentle Soul

Years and years passed without us knowing of each other's lives,
and by the time we did catch up, we both had our shares of blows and setbacks.
Slowly, our friendship found its ground and feet again,
and one thing is now clear to me.

You have a gentle soul, one challenges did not tarnish or diminish.
You forged ahead through all your trials, refusing to lose heart or courage.
Slowly, your spirit took wings again, and your laughter and joy bounced back,
and one thing shows through to me.

You have a gentle soul, one that looks at life from both sides and decided
to walk on, head held high and proud, but never arrogant or cold.
Slowly, you overcame what tried to hold you back, and on you went, free,
and it is so good to see, so clear to me.

You have a gentle soul, one that lifts those around you with kindness
and determination. You are a rare breed, a person who takes their trials
and turns them into flying birds, doves, quiet, wise, with a soft song
to share.

Yes, my friend, I am so glad to see, so pleased to know,
that you are a gentle, gentle soul, one whose light spirit
also lifts my own.
May your journey lead you forward always, with springy, airy step,
for you are a gentle, gentle, noble soul.
